Hello, and welcome to the online teaching blog for Professor Joshua Coon!

On this site, you will find a summary of my academic career with a special emphasis on my university and college teaching experience. This is a work in progress, so check back frequently for updates.

Bio: My name is Joshua Coon, and I am currently employed as an adjunct professor in the Mathematics department at Salt Lake Community College in Salt Lake City, Utah, United States.

I graduated with a doctorate degree from the University of Utah, Salt Lake City, United States in December 2012.I also hold a masters degree in Physics, a bachelor’s degree in Physics, and a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, all from the University of Utah.

My dissertation, based of several years of research that I performed during graduate school, titled “Treatment Time Reduction Through Parameter Optimization In Magnetic Resonance Guided High Intensity Focused Ultrasound Treatments” was successfully defended in December 2011. In addition, my research generated two high impact articles that were published in the International Journal of Hyperthermia. For more details, click on the “Research” tab.

Since graduation, I have been actively employed as a professor and lecturer at the university and college level. The institutions for which I have worked  (listed alphabetically) are Salt Lake Community College, University of Utah, and Utah Valley University. I have taught both courses in both physics and mathematics. The levels of these courses have ranged from rudimentary to advanced. During my time as a professor, I have also had several opportunities to provide service to the community and student body. These service activities have ranged from informal student mentoring during tutoring sessions and office hours to formal presentations given to student organizations. I have also continued my professional development beyond the level achieved through formal education. This growth has included formal training sessions on new utilizing new technology as a teaching tool, attending training meetings on teaching methods, and independent research on difficult topics in physics and mathematics.
